day is about to get even more exciting: stretched out before you is the Pasterze, the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps. When it was first built, the cableway still reached the eternal ice; now, however, the glacier has significantly receded \u2014 so that today\u2019s passengers have to add on a 60-minute walk to reach its frozen shores. Glacier Trail is a spectacular, moderately challenging hiking route leading from the Glocknerhaus (situated directly on the Grossglockner High-Alpine Road) to the Pasterze, the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps. The path takes you through the stunning, high-alpine landscape of the National Park, all the way to the so-called \u2018Hufeisenbruch\u2019 \u2014 an enormous glacial fracture from which the fledgling waters of the Moell river are released. The hike starts at the Glocknerhaus, directly on the <a href=\"https:\/\/heiligenblut.cs4web.at\/en\/grossglockner-high-alpine-road\/\">Grossglockner High Alpine Road<\/a>. Duration: around 4 hours; altitude difference: approx. 400m. While the route is easy to manage in terms of technique, hikers must be surefooted.
